Headteacher's Welcome

It has been a very busy week with lots going on in particular for our Y2 children. On Tuesday and Wednesday they entertained their parents and carers with a fabulous Leaver's Performance. The singing was amazing and it felt like a very emotional occasional as we reflected on just how far these children have come in 3 years.

They were absolutely brilliant! (and many tissues were required!)

Well Done Year 2 - You were FANTASTIC!!!!

As a special treat we then took the children to Forge Dam which according to many children on the way back was 'the best day EVER!' They had fun playing with their friends on the field, having  a picnic, taking part in fun races and then of course...having an ice cream!  (Thank you PTA!)

It was a fabulous day and I was very proud of the fantastic behaviour of all the children. Well done!

 Online Safety Reminder
It has been brought to our attention that a number of our children have been watching some online videos, ‘memes’, that on the surface appear child friendly, however it would seem are actually quite inappropriate for young children. Whilst the memes are animated, colourful and look suitable, the children also told us that they knew that some content was ‘bad’ and that this included language which some religions would find offensive, as well as references to bombing certain parts of the world. We are not intending to talk to the children in school about this as we are concerned that if we draw attention to something they are told they ‘shouldn’t’ see online then they are more likely to seek it out. From talking to these children it sounds like the memes have appeared on YouTube and often have been in the list of ‘similar items’ or ‘recommended for you’ that automatically appear.

We would , however, like to use this opportunity to remind you of the importance of the following:-

  • Be aware of what your child is watching online – have conversations with them and check in with them regularly about what they are watching online
  • Try to be within hearing distance of what they are watching
  • Use Kids YouTube  - this should filter out most inappropriate material although you still need to check as nothing is guaranteed to be totally safe
  • Remind your child that if something pops up that they don’t like, or worries them, then they should tell a grown up.

We would advise that you regularly check your settings for parental control options and keep close supervision of your child whilst using the internet. You can find further information and advice on the attached NSPCC Factsheets.
