Headteacher's Welcome Despite the wet weather the children have come back to school cheerful and full of enthusiasm for the new term. Thankfully the sun has been shining today which has meant that our Reception children have had a fabulous day outside using balance bikes with Steven from Arches Sports Partnership.
School Values This term we will be focusing on the value Kindness. We will be talking and thinking about what kindness is, how we can show kindness towards others and the consequences when we act in a way that is not kind towards others.
We are really pleased to welcome Mr Wilson, our new Buildings Officer. He started with us on Wednesday and is already having a positive impact within school. The teachers have put together lots of information for parents to support their child's learning for the next term so please see the information outlined below. We have lots of things planned for this term which is always a busy and exciting one as we look forward to Christmas and all of the magic that brings for young children. Please make sure you look carefully at the calendar and take note of key dates. Please also support us by responding swiftly to requests from the office team for permissions etc.

Online Safety We regularly talk to children in school about how to stay safe online. We do this through our PSED curriculum, in assemblies and also when incidental things come up in conversation. Each half term we have an Online Safety Assembly, this took place just before half term. The theme was 'being kind online' and a story was shared about a Duck who gets into problems when he shares photos on line. This was shared with the Y1 and Y2 children in assembly and to Reception in their classes. There is a link to this story if you would like to read it with your child at home. |
Diwali
The children in all year groups will be learning more about Diwali this half term as part of their learning in Religious Education. It is always more meaningful for young children to share first hand experiences with them. If your family will be celebrating Diwali, we would like to invite you to help bring this learning to life for us in school. You may like to come in to talk to your child's class, do an assembly or send photos of your family celebrating together. If this is something you would like to support us with then please email school.

Firstly, we'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who played a part in our half term Pumpkin Trails. We hope everyone had a lot of fun!
But now it's November, planning for Christmas starts! To kick things off, we'll be holding a Christmas Jumper Sale (which also includes Xmas PJs, leggings, dresses, accessories etc) on Friday 24th November. So if anyone has any festive items of clothing in good condition that they no longer need and that they'd be willing to donate, we'd love it if they could be handed into the office over the next couple of weeks. It's worth noting too that while the official Save the Children Christmas Jumper day is on 7th December, the school's Christmas Jumper day will be in the last week of term. We'll also be hosting a PTA Winter Movie Night on Friday 1st December - details to follow soon.
Our next meeting is on Thursday 9th November at 7.45pm in The Florentine - everyone welcome!

We have a new School Council who have been voted in by their classmates in Year 1 and Year 2. There are no class representatives in Reception but we do include their views e.g. when voting for events in school and we share information with them. The School Council help Mrs Hawkins with important jobs in school, share information with their classes and take their class ideas and views back to Mrs Hawkins. Next week they will be helping Mrs Hawkins with the Open Morning for new parents by telling them all about our school. BBC Children in Need The School Council met yesterday to discuss BBC Children in Need. They were all in agreement that we should try to raise money to help Children in Need. We will have an assembly next week so the children understand more about how Children In Need supports others. Some ideas for raising money included a fun run and wearing pyjamas so together they decided that we would have a 'Pyjama Fun Run'. If your child would like to take part they can come to school wearing pyjamas and trainers ready to run as many times as they can around our running track. Parents are invited to make a donation to BBC Children in Need via our Donations page:- |
Notes from the Teachers Year 1 & Year 2 This half term the topic of 'Fire and Water' will continue. The children will be doing lots of exciting learning linked to topics such as Bonfire Night and then the Great Fire of London. There is lots of information available to parents so you can understand more about what they are are learning at school and how you can support them at home. There is also a list of key topic vocabulary that will be used throughout the term. Please see the links below:-
Foundation Stage The topic for this half term in Reception will be Celebrations: Reception Overview - Celebrations
Messages for Teachers We know for parents there can be quick questions you want to ask teachers, or things you want to mention and that once children get into Year 1 & 2 there are fewer opportunities to do this. We are happy for you to email class teachers but know that sometimes a quick face to face conversation can be easier - teachers are more than happy to have a quick chat once they have handed children over safely to parents at the end of the school day. The class email is the name of the class as follows e.g. bears@nethergreen-inf.sheffield.sch.uk, etc |
