Headteacher's Welcome

We have had another super week in school! I have had the pleasure of visiting classrooms this week to see some of the learning that has been taking place. In Reception the children are really settled already, showing increasing independence, playing happily and following classroom routines. In Year 1 the children have been working like historians, investigating what seasides were like in the past. The Year 2s have quickly stepped into the role of setting a super example to everyone around school by following all of our rules and working with great determination and independenceWell done everyone - I am so proud of you all!

Traffic Around School

Sheffield road near several schools has 'no safe place to cross' - YorkshireLive

It certainly is feeling like Autumn with the weather this week! With the rain seems to always come more issues with vehicles outside school.  It is very concerning to see so many parents driving along the road outside school, blocking driveways, double parking, parking on the white lines etc - all of which cause congestion and create risk for our childrenPlease could we remind everyone of the following expectations and remind everyone to put the safety of all of our children first.

Please, please, please ...

  • Avoid driving down Stumperlowe Park Road (the road outside school)
  • Do not stop in the middle of the  road and let your child out of the car - this is dangerous!
  • Look out for bikes (we have many parents who cycle to school with their children)
  • Do not leave your engine running whilst you cross the road to bring your child to the gate  - vehicle exhaust fumes are toxic!
  • Please park safely and respectfully
  • Allow extra time when the weather is bad - the roads are always busier

Just a quick reminder from the PTA about our next meeting which is on Tuesday 26 September at 7:45pm at the Florentine.  Please get in touch if you’d like to get involved. Its very informal and there’s no commitment to come to every meeting. In fact you could just join our WhatsApp group and chip in to help as and when you can. Email us at if you’d like to know more or get involved. One big project we are keen to get started is the Sensory Garden, in particular adding some fences and laying some new paths. If any of you are able to offer any support or advice on this please do get in touch.

Reception Settling In Review Questionnaire

As part of our on-going transition process we are keen to collect the views of Reception parents / carers and their children so that we can reflect on current practice. Our aim is to make the transition between pre-school and school as smooth and stress free as possible. Reception parents - please use the link below to fill in the questionnaire to help us collect your feedback.

Next Fri 29th Sep will be our first 'Fourth Friday'. This is an opportunity for parents to come into school from 8:40am to see their classroom and support their child with a learning activity. The bell will ring at 8:55am - at this time the parents are expected to leave the classroom promptly via the main gate.

Year 1 Phonics Talk

It was great to see some of you in school this week for our Y1 Phonics Talk led by Mrs Smith (with the super assistance of some of the Y1 Elephants children!) If you were unable to attend then you can see the information on the KS1 page. The Y1 children will also be bringing a  leaflet home to explain how phonics is taught in school.

Messages  for Teachers

Just a reminder that if you have a quick message e.g. about school pick ups, then the best way to communicate this is by sending a quick email to the office and they will ensure the message is passed on to class teachers. You can contact teachers via their class emails but these will not always be seen during the school day as teachers are busy teaching.

The class email is the name of the class as follows e.g., etc
