Headteacher's Welcome It was so lovely to invite parents and carers into school this week for our 'Book Look'. The children certainly enjoyed showing you their work, their classrooms and their teachers. The Year 1 and Year 2 children have had a very exciting week this week as they have had a visit from Miss Lily! They have been investigating what seaside holidays in the past were like which included looking at lots of different artefacts from the past, dressing up and even eating some 'Hokey Pokey' (ice cream!) |
Rudolph Christmas Cards!
We realise it’s early to be thinking about Christmas, but if you’re looking for a way to support the school and make a start on your Christmas shopping, this is the perfect opportunity! Your child has brought home a template on which they can design a special picture ready for Christmas. This can then be printed on to Christmas cards, mugs and a whole range of other products. Please see the parent letter for more information and examples. If you are interested, here’s what you need to do:
Purchases should arrive in plenty of time for Christmas. They will be distributed at school for children to take home. |
Y2 Applications for Y3 All Y2 children should have brought home a letter this week with information about how to apply for your child's Year 3 place. Online applications must be submitted by 8th December and the deadline for paper applications is 15th January. If your child has an EHCP you should have heard already from the SEND team. Nether Green Junior School will be having an open evening for Y2 children on Tuesday 7th November at 6:00pm. Please see attached letter for further information. SEND Parent Support Group
It was great for people to meet and chat at the SEN coffee morning earlier this week. A parents WhatsApp group has been set up to offer support, ask questions and generally share the load; if you would like to be added just send a quick message to Jo via the school office and they will pass on your phone number to be added to the group.

Notes from the Teachers Reception Maths Talk Next Tuesday morning parents and carers will have the opportunity to come into school and learn a bit more about how we teach Maths. There will be a short talk in the hall led by Mrs Keeling, our Maths & Early Years leader and then there will be the opportunity for parents to go into classroom to enjoy some Maths activities with the children. These will last until about 9:50am. We know it can be tricky for parents to attend so if a grandparent or other carer would like to come they are very welcome.
Year 1 and Reception Phonics Feedback There is still time to let us know about the Phonics information and talks that recently took place. Please complete the short survey below - it is useful to have feedback from parents who didn't attend as well as those who were able to. Thanks. Messages for Teachers We know for parents there can be quick questions you want to ask teachers, or things you want to mention and that once children get into Year 1 & 2 there are fewer opportunities to do this. We are happy for you to email class teachers but know that sometimes a quick face to face conversation can be easier - teachers are more than happy to have a quick chat once they have handed children over safely to parents at the end of the school day. The class email is the name of the class as follows e.g. bears@nethergreen-inf.sheffield.sch.uk, etc |

Open Event for Prospective Parents Please share with anyone you know who has a child due to start school in September 2024.

We have been talking about Black History Month in school this week. All children have brought home an activity which invites them to research a black figure from history.
It lasts for the whole of October so there is plenty of time to take part.

Dates for the Diary Please see attached the Parent Calendar for this year. Please take a few minutes to take note of dates including INSET and holiday dates, Parents' Evenings, Parent workshops to find out about learning in school and performances. Notes about the calendar: 'Fourth Friday' - every 4th Friday that the children are in school parents will be invited into classrooms from when they open at 8:40am until when the bell rings at 8:55am (we have changed this from 'First Friday' due to diary clashes). Initially this will just be Y1 and Y2 classes whilst the new Reception children settle.
