Nether Green Infant School

Weekly News Page

Friday 26th April 2024

We have had a super week again in school! The children have had a lovely time exploring and playing in our new Sensory Garden. They have also had fun in the playground with a range of new activities taking place led by our Y2 'Little Leaders'. Year 1 & 2 had a super visit to Conisbrough Castle and despite the rather soggy and cold weather they all came back full of enthusiasm after their exciting day out.

On Thursday, Penguins class performed at the Octagon Centre as part of the School Sports Partnership annual Dance Festival. They were absolutely brilliant and we were all very, very proud of every one of them - WELL DONE PENGUINS!

 After School Club Collection

Please could we remind all parents to leave the school grounds promptly once they have collected their children from After School Club. We have had a number of occasions recently where parents and children have almost been locked in the playground after collection as their children have been playing on the playground equipment. Please remember that school staff finish at 6:00pm and then the school grounds are locked.

Firstly, thanks so much for all your support at the second hand uniform sale this morning. We don't have the capacity to repeat it after school this time but let us know if it would be useful to have another sale at the later time and we'll try and organise one soon. In the meantime, we continue to welcome any uniform donations (especially of good quality tops and cardigans) to the office.
Per the letter shared last week, Sparky Marky is booked and ready to entertain. This event is open for all age groups and will take place from 5.30-6.30pm. Payment (£6) in advance via ParentPay.
We're currently planning our biggest fun(draising) event of the year and we'd love to hear from anyone who has, or knows anyone who might have, something to donate as a prize for this year's raffle. It could be anything you think parents would love to win: a voucher, a hamper, a box of wine, some form of childcare!

Last year prizes included vouchers for beauty salons, physio sessions, coffee shops, pubs, restaurants, florists, hairdressers, opticians, sporting events and kids camps. Plus there were craft beers, bottles of champagne, food hampers and premium water bottles up for grabs. There really was something for everyone and there were a LOT of happy winners. And we'd love to have an even greater line up this year!

Please email if you have anything - or any ideas - to offer up! Thank you so so much!

Changes to DFE Attendance Guidance

As you may be aware school attendance has become a national issue in the past few years.

The DFE have recently issued some updated guidance for schools which will come into force in September this includes:-

  • increased fines for parents taking children out of school during term time for holidays
  • closer monitoring and potential prosecution for irregular attendance - 10 absences within 10 weeks (1 absence = 1/2 a day)

The attached letter provides more information - please take a few minutes to read it. We will be updating our Attendance Policy ready for implementation in September.
