Headteacher's Welcome

The children had great fun this morning with their Sponsored Pyjama Pancake Toss! Thank so much for supporting this event with your kind donations.

It has been an actioned packed term and I think it is fair to say that the children and staff are ready for a well earned rest! I hope you all have time for some quality family time over half term and hopefully we might see some sunshine at some point! (or at least not see any rain!)

Preschool Open Morning - Saturday 14th March 10am-12pm

Please share the date with anyone you know who has a child age 0-3.

We are now taking applications for next school year

September 2026, January & April 2027.

Safer Internet Day

This week was Safer Internet Day.

We shared a story called 'The Pop Up Gremlins'.

When Edie gets a new tablet for her birthday, she’s told not to tap any pop-ups. But it’s hard to resist tapping a pop-up when it’s blocking such an exciting game!

As pop-up gremlins take over her room, Edie soon learns when she should stop, close and tell.

The story focuses on Internet safety in a child-friendly way, helping children to understand what they can do if they see something online that is unexpected or that they aren’t sure about.

Important - Sports Day Change of Date!

We have had to change the date of the Y1 & Y2 Sports Morning due to a diary clash. Each year one class from school performs at the Arches Dance Festival with other schools. This year the date has moved later in the term and will be on 20th May which means we need to move our KS1 Sports morning.

Sports Dates

Wed 20th May - Penguins class to perform at Dance Festival

Thurs 21st May - Reception Sports Afternoon in school

NEW DATE: Wed 3rd Jun - Y1 & Y2 Sports Morning at Hallam Primary School

Punctuality

Thank you to all of those parents / carers who have made such an effort to get their children to school on time this week. Please be aware that office staff will ask for the reason for any late arrivals as we have to record and monitor this. This information is shared with Sheffield City Council who monitor attendance and punctuality across the city.

 Clubs Next Half Term

There are a small number of places left in all clubs which can be booked over half term.

  • Here is more detail on each club - please read before booking as refunds will not be given.

Breakfast & After School Club Bookings

Please ensure you book your child into clubs in advance. It is becoming a regular occurrence that children are arriving in clubs without a booking. One day this week we had 5 children arriving at Breakfast Club who were not on the register. We need to ensure safe staffing levels and in order to do this we need to know how many children to expect. We appreciate that occasionally there are last minute changes, however, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to take children at the last minute who are not booked in.

Preschool children must be booked in at least 7 days in advance as we have to adhere to strict ratios.

Sponsored Pancake Toss Today!

We’ve had a great morning this morning supporting the children with their sponsored pancake toss.  The children ran with their frying pan and pancake up the hall and back again, tossing their pancake at the end of their run, then passing it to their next team member until the time was up.  They all had such a good time, the hall was full of happy faces and lots of cheering and encouragement from their classmates.  Altogether the whole school managed to toss an amazing 862 pancakes!  Such a lot of pancakes!  Well done everyone.
We have had such an amazing response to our request for sponsorship and so far have raised over £2,300 which is absolutely fabulous. Thank you so much. This means we will be able to sponsor a children’s hospital lion cub. Our school will be able to design, paint and give a forever home to one of the cubs. The sculptures will go on display as part of a huge, free public art trail which is celebrating 150 years of Sheffield Children’s Hospital and raising vital funds to create a hospital environment built with children in mind – for today, for tomorrow and for the next 150 years. At the end of the trail, the lion and lioness sculptures will head to auction, and our cub sculpture will be returned to our school to stay and be looked after by everyone in the school.  This is so exciting, thank you once again.
We're just finalising the following events to take place after half term:

Thurs 5th Mar - World Book Day - Book and cake sales plus children invited to dress as their favourite book character.
Thurs 26th Mar - Easter Egg Hunt - Children challenged to solve the clues and find the prize during school time!
Thurs 14th May - School Disco - Sparky Marky booked and more info to follow nearer the time!

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy Pancake Day and have a lovely half term!

Notes from the Teachers

Library Helpers

Would you like to support us in enabling children to develop a love of books?

We hugely value Reading for Pleasure and are fortunate to have a fabulous, well stocked library in the entrance area of school. It is lovely for children to be able to visit the library weekly to enjoy looking at the books and choosing one to take home. In order for this to happen, we rely on volunteers - this can be parents, grandparents or other volunteers. If you, or another family member, is able to volunteer for a session each week of about 45 minutes this could enable a class to have a valuable library visit. If you are interested please contact the school office. We are currently looking for a volunteer for the following classes:-

  • Koalas
  • Bears
  • Turtles
  • Kangaroos

Contact with Teachers

If you need to contact your child's class teacher you may email them using the class email which is the name of the class as follows e.g. bears@nethergreen-inf.sheffield.sch.uk, koalas@nethergreen-inf.sheffield.sch.uk etc

Please do not expect an immediate response as teachers are teaching all day and are not expected to reply to emails during evenings and weekends. For a quick chat you can wait at the end of the day. For urgent messages please contact the school office.
