Headteacher's Welcome

The children loved the Concerteenies performance on Wednesday afternoon - it was fabulous!! The children were so engaged and sat brilliantly throughout it - thank you for supporting this event; children in all groups got so much pleasure from it.

This week as part of the National Literacy Trust's 'Year of Reading' we have been celebrating 'National Story Telling week'. Children in each class have been learning to retell a story orally off by heart. The children have all performed their stories to another class  - if you ask they may show off their fabulous storytelling skills by retelling their class story to you!

What is National Storytelling Week?

Created by 'Society for Storytelling', this fantastic annual event is a joyful celebration of the power of sharing stories. Stories teach us about the world; they allow us to step into someone else’s shoes and feel empathy; they help us to relax and escape and they can help develop essential literacy skills.

National Storytelling Week 2026 is a celebration of oral storytelling, reading and writing for pleasure.

Punctuality

Please could we politely remind you that all children should be in their classroom ready for the register by 8:55am.

We have noticed more and more children arriving late to school recently - being late means your child is put at a disadvantage as they miss valuable learning time as well as missing out on a more gentle start to the day.  Alongside this it causes widespread disruption:-

  • Children are arriving part way through lessons which is confusing for them and disruptive for the rest of the class
  • Office staff are spending a long time going back and forth with latecomers
  • The kitchen staff are unable to start cooking meals until they have orders from all children

Arriving late means missed learning for your child:

The Impact of Lateness on Attendance

  • 5 minutes late every day: Equals 3.5 days of school missed in a year.
  • 10 minutes late every day: Equals 7.2 days of school missed.
  • 15 minutes late every day: Equals 10 days of school missed.
  • 20 minutes late every day: Equals 14.4 days of school missed.
  • 30 minutes late every day: Equals 19 days of school missed.

Notes from the Teachers

Library Helpers

Would you like to support us in enabling children to develop a love of books?

We hugely value Reading for Pleasure and are fortunate to have a fabulous, well stocked library in the entrance area of school. It is lovely for children to be able to visit the library weekly to enjoy looking at the books and choosing one to take home. In order for this to happen, we rely on volunteers - this can be parents, grandparents or other volunteers. If you, or another family member, is able to volunteer for a session each week of about 45 minutes this could enable a class to have a valuable library visit. If you are interested please contact the school office. We are currently looking for a volunteer for the following classes:-

  • Koalas
  • Bears
  • Turtles
  • Kangaroos

Contact with Teachers

If you need to contact your child's class teacher you may email them using the class email which is the name of the class as follows e.g. bears@nethergreen-inf.sheffield.sch.uk, koalas@nethergreen-inf.sheffield.sch.uk etc

Please do not expect an immediate response as teachers are teaching all day and are not expected to reply to emails during evenings and weekends. For a quick chat you can wait at the end of the day. For urgent messages please contact the school office.

Sponsored Pancake Toss on Friday 13th February

It’s only one week to go until the children do their sponsored pancake toss! All proceeds will be split 50/50 between the school and the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity Pride of Yorkshire campaign. The Office Team have kindly shared a letter via email and the sponsorship form has been sent home in book bags. This is the link for online sponsorships – please share with friends and family and encourage them to give as generously as they can to these two brilliant causes!

Many thanks to those that have volunteered to support our other upcoming events:
