Headteacher's Welcome

It has been lovely to welcome our Reception parents into school this week for their first Parents' Evening. There were lots of happy parents leaving having looked at books and found out about how well their child has settled.

The Year 2 pupils had a super trip to Ecclesall Woods on Wednesday morning. They were all full of enthusiasm on their return about the pond dipping and other fun activities they had taken part in.

We had a super active day on Tuesday, when children were able to take part in a Tennis taster session - they really enjoyed it. Thanks to Courtside Tennis for coming in.

Online Safety Assembly
This week the KS1 children had their termly Online Safety Assembly. The theme was 'Screen Time'. The Reception children had a disucssion around the same theme in their classrooms. The children learnt about how there are lots of positive things we can do online and on screens, and that this is ok, but that its important to do lots of other activities too and that too much time spent on screens is not good for your overall wellbeing. The children were very knowledgeable about this and gave lots of super answers - this had obviously been discussed at home too!
You can read some useful advice for parents on the NSPCC website - see link below.

You can also see the PowerPoint that was used with the children here.

Year 2 - Date for the Diary:  Y3 Open Evening at Nether Green Junior School

There is an open evening at Nether Green Junior School on Tues 4th Nov for all children applying for a Year 3 place. More information to follow.

Funds Raised: Cake Sale

Thank you to you and your families for supporting the cake sale last Friday. We got our fund raising efforts off to a great start by raising £129. For the keen bakers that are raring to bake again, the next cake sale will be at the Christmas Fair on Friday 28th November!

Some reminders and a movie night update below:

Dress As You Please – Wednesday 22nd October

On the last day of school before half term, children are invited to dress as they please! Please pop £1 in their book bag if they take part.

 Christmas Fair – Friday 28th November, 3.20-4.30pm

Thanks to those that have already volunteered to support this event and have made kind donations. The box for any more donations is clearly marked and just inside at reception (out of the rain!). If you have a half term clear out planned, there’s still plenty of time to make donations of any unwanted gifts in new or like new condition so that the children can purchase gifts for their loved ones at the Elfridges store! We would also be very grateful for any outgrown school uniform and Christmas clothing (jumpers, pyjamas, etc.).

 Christmas Cards

We realise it’s early, but TODAY your child will be bringing home a template to design a special picture ready for Christmas. This can then be printed on to Christmas cards, mugs and a range of other products via Xmas4Schools. Great for cards and gifts, while also raising money for the PTA.

Full instructions are included with the template, but in summary:
At home over half term, children can complete a design on the drawing template provided. Felt tips, paint or collage is fine, just no sparkly glitter please!
Complete the form on the reverse of your child’s drawing.
Return the drawing and the form to school by Wednesday 5th November.
The designs are sent back to Xmas4schools, then you will receive a text / email from Xmas4Schools with a personal order code so you can log in, place orders and pay. Orders will be delivered direct to you and should arrive in plenty of time for Christmas.
Happy designing!

UPDATE: Christmas Movie Night – Friday 5th December, 5-6.30pm

It’s popcorn and pyjamas time for Christmas movie night! This year we will be showing the appropriately festive Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas. Drop off will be at 5 pm and pick up at 6.30 pm. The cost is £6 per child (and includes a portion of popcorn) and will be payable via ParentPay – more info to follow soon!

Santa’s Grotto – Monday 15th December

We are extremely excited to announce that Father Christmas will be visiting school on Monday 15th December! The children will have the opportunity to visit him in his festive grotto in small groups during the normal school day. He will be giving them each a small gift! The cost is £4 per child and will be payable via ParentPay – more info to follow soon!

 Preloved Uniform

If you’re looking for some more school uniform, please check the NGIS Grown Out Of It page.

 Uniform Labels

Did you know that, on average, every child permanently loses 9 items of school kit per year?! Labelling everything makes sure that any lost items make their way back to you. For every name label order made with the School ID: 6582, Tiger Tags will donate £1 to school - a double bonus of preventing you additional expense and fund raising for our lovely school!

This year the PTA will funding the development of the play area at the back of the Kangaroos classroom. This will create a fun, problem-solving area for the children with a sandpit, tyres, pipes, etc. More info on the other ways we’ll be supporting the school to follow in future updates.

Please do support us in any way you can. If you’d like to join the PTA WhatsApp group or support us deliver any of the events, please let us know by contacting us at nethergreeninfantschoolpta@gmail.com

We hope you and your families have a brilliant half term!

Notes from the Teachers

Mrs Staniforth has the following request...

Those of you who have children attending after school club may notice how popular the craft trolley is. We are always grateful of donated items, if you were thinking of having a pre Christmas/Autumn clear out then please bear us in mind. These items are really popular:
  • Small boxes
  • Ribbons
  • Pom poms
  • Coffee stirrers or lolly sticks
  • Paper Straws
  • Corks
  • Buttons/sequins

We are grateful for any of these things or anything else you think of that might spark their imagination.

Thank you for your support.
Abigail Staniforth and the After School Club team
