Headteacher's Welcome

It has been another busy week in school with lots of exciting learning taking place.  It is great to see the children developing independence and confidence all the time.  Our new Preschool and Reception children are settling so well and I have been amazed this week to see how independent they are and how much progress they are making with their learning.

I had the pleasure of joining Koalas for one of their 'Drawing Club' sessions this week. Drawing Club is an initiative that integrates drawing activities into the learning curriculum, particularly aimed at young children in Early Years. It leverages the natural inclination of children to express themselves through art, using this as a bridge to develop their writing skills. The idea is that the sessions help children to develop their imaginations, to talk about their ideas, to mark make and eventually to begin to write in an exciting and creative way.

It was lovely to see the enthusiasm of the Koalas as they talked about their pictures and showed me their 'magic codes' (writing).

This week they have been reading 'The Colour Monster' which is a story which helps children to understand a range of emotions. Their task was 'What would the jar for love look like?'

They came up with some very creative ideas and were able to talk lots about their ideas.

Allergies in School

Allergy Aware School | St. Aidan's Primary School – A Church of England Academy

Our staff have all recently taken part in allergy training. We are an allergy aware school which means we have completed training to give us a good understanding of how to prevent allergic reactions and also how to respond if someone does have an allergic reaction in school. We all work hard to make our school a safe place for everyone.

Take part in this survey to share your experiences of walking, wheeling, or cycling to primary school, and what could make it better.

The survey is run by the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen), Britain’s largest social research organisation. NatCen is running the survey for Active Travel England, who work to make walking, wheeling and cycling a safe and attractive choice for everyday trips.

The online survey should take around 10 minutes and should be completed by 14th October 2026. To take part, please use the following link

Please note:

  • Taking part is your choice.
  • There are no right or wrong answers.
  • You can complete the survey once for each child in reception, year 1, year 5 or year 6.
  • Your child does not have to regularly walk, wheel or cycle to school for you to take part in the survey.

What will I be asked?

  • How you / your child travels to school.
  • What helps or makes it hard to walk, wheel or cycle to school.
  • What you think about changes to help children travel actively to school.
More information about the project and what taking part involves can be found in the Taking part page, privacy notice and plain English privacy notice.

You can also email ASTSurvey@natcen.ac.uk or call 0808 168 1356 for more information.
