Headteacher's Welcome

 It has been a super week in school. It has been lovely to see the children's confidence growing as they become more familiar with their new routines in school. 

School Values

We have six Whole School Values that we talk to the children about regularly in school and they form the basis of our whole school ethos. Our School Values are Respect, Kindness, Teamwork, Perseverance, Honesty and Responsibility. 

We focus on one value each half term.

This half term our school value is Respect.

We teach the children that Respect means listening when someone speaks to them, taking care of things that belong to you or others, and being kind to others even when you disagree. We encourage all of our children to treat others with care and kindness and to think about how they would like others to treat them.

PTA Meeting

A reminder that our first PTA meeting of the year is next Tuesday (22nd September) at 7.45pm at The Florentine. We’ll be looking ahead to the year, including plans for our upcoming events, so it’s a great opportunity to come along if you’re new to the PTA or thinking about getting involved.

You don’t need to commit to coming to every meeting or helping at every event – any time you’re able to give is hugely appreciated. We’d particularly love to welcome parents who haven’t been involved before, especially those with children in Reception and Pre-School. We’re keen to start building the next generation of PTA members and ensure a good handover as children move through the school and on to Juniors.

 Easy Ways to Support the School

In the meantime, there are a couple of really easy ways you can support the school without it costing you anything extra:

• Easyfundraising: Did you know you can raise money for school at no extra cost to you? Simply sign up to easyfundraising and shop online as normal through their website or app. Hundreds of retailers will make a donation to our school when you shop with them, so your everyday online shopping can help raise funds for the children.  
• Your School Lottery: Support our school while also being in with a chance of winning! For just £1 a week, you can join our Your School Lottery. Each ticket gives you the chance to win a weekly cash prize, with a percentage of ticket sales going directly to the school. There are currently only a small number of players, so there’s a great chance of winning! The more families who join, the more we can raise together for the children. 
• Pre-Loved Uniform: We’re delighted to announce that we now have a generous volunteer taking the lead on pre-loved uniform sales! Our next step is to carry out a stock take of what we currently have. We’ll share details of the available uniform once we’ve completed this.

Notes from the Teachers 

Library Volunteers Needed!

We have a lovely Library in school and our aim is for children to be able to access this regularly and borrow books to take home and enjoy with their families. 

In order for this to happen we need volunteers - it is usually for about an hour a week in an afternoon. We have had some volunteers so far but still need someone for Bears, Koalas and Penguins. Please contact your child's class teacher if you are able to help - grandparents welcome too! 

Please could we remind parents to return library books every week. 

Foundation Stage (Reception)  Information

In addition to the half term Parent Overview, there is also a Weekly Newsletter for parents of children in Reception which gives details of specific learning each week in school and how this can be supported at home.

Contact with Teachers 

If you need to contact your child's class teacher you may email them using the class email which is the name of the class as follows e.g. bears@nethergreen-inf.sheffield.sch.uk, koalas@nethergreen-inf.sheffield.sch.uk etc

Please do not expect an immediate response as teachers are teaching all day and are not expected to reply to emails during evenings and weekends. For a quick chat you can wait at the end of the day. For urgent messages please contact the school office. 

Dates for the Diary

Please see the attached parent calendar which contains lots of important dates that you might want to put in you diaries including Nativity (Y1), Spring Concert (Reception) and Y2 Leaver's Performance. 

Please also note that on Friday 18th December we have Christmas singing outside for parents at 1:45pm. After school club finishes at 4:00pm on this day.

Allergies in School

We have a number of children in school who have severe allergies. Please do not send any products to school containing nuts. This includes cereal bars, biscuits, peanut butter sandwiches etc

We have noticed some children bringing snacks to school this week containing nuts e.g. Nutella sandwiches, almond croissants. All children are given a piece of fruit for snack in the morning - they may bring an alternative fruit / veg snack but we request that you do not send any other food for snack time. 

Eggs - we also have some children with egg allergies - we know that cooked egg is in many products and can be difficult to avoid, however, we do ask that you avoid sending foods with a high egg content e.g. egg sandwiches, scotch eggs etc

Encouraging your child to wash their hands regularly, including before school can also reduce the risk of a reaction.

Broomhill Library Friday Fun Autumn 1 2026

Free Music Taster Day

On Saturday 10 October, 10:00am to 4:00pm, Sheffield Music Hub will be hosting Learn to Play 2026, a FREE music taster day at Red Tape Central, Sheffield. 

The day includes:

• Free 20-minute one-to-one instrumental taster lessons with expert music teachers
• Free "Give it a Go" instrument stalls featuring brass, woodwind, strings, guitar, keyboard and percussion instruments
• Free group music taster sessions, including:
• Mini Music Makers (ages 4 - 7)
• Mini Voices Choir (Years 1 - 2)
• Samba Music (Years 3 - 13)
• Beginner Recorder Club (Years 2 - 4)
