Headteacher's Welcome It has been lovely to see some sunshine this week! We've had another action packed week in school and the children really are very settled in their new classes. It was lovely to be able to invite parents and carers in for our '4th Friday' session today in Y1 & Y2. Invitation: To all Parents and Carers Classroom drop ins next week... You are invited to come into classrooms to look at some of the leaning that has been taking place. Year 1 & Year 2 - Tuesday 3rd October 3:20-5:00pm Reception - Wednesday 4th October 3:20-5:00pm The Reception children have been settling well into school; it's still early days so there won't be much 'work' in books, however they can show you around now that they are familiar with their classrooms and routines. The PTA had a very productive planning meeting on Tuesday - thanks so much to everyone who came along and to all those who have signed up to get involved this year! We'll be sharing details of this term's line up of seasonal fun and games in the next week or so. And if anyone would like to join us next time, we'll be meeting on Tuesday 7th November at 7.45pm (most likely at The Florentine).
In the meantime, we wanted to draw your attention to a super simple way you can support the school - the School Lottery. It was set up to help schools facing growing financial pressure. And never have schools needed it more.
 All you have to do is register at www.yourschoollottery.co.uk - it takes 2 minutes. You can then buy a ticket for a one off draw or set up a monthly direct debit to enter on an ongoing basis. Tickets cost just £1 per week and there is a guaranteed cash winner from the school every week - plus you'll be in with a chance to win the £25,000 jackpot. Our children directly benefit regardless of who wins because every penny of profit raised goes straight back to the school. Last year it helped raise over £700. We'd love it if we could match or raise more than that this year.

Notes from the Teachers Library Volunteers As part of our aim to encourage a love of reading we aim for children to visit the school library regularly and take a book home to enjoy. This works effectively with volunteers who come into school once a week to support this activity. If you have time in your weekly schedule and could be available we still need a volunteer for Bears, Koalas, Kangaroos and Penguins classes. Please contact the school office if you are interested. Reception Phonics Talk It was great to welcome so many parents into school for the Reception Phonics Talk this week. If you were unable to attend, the information has been uploaded to the Foundations Stage Page. We really welcome your feedback so we can continually improve; please spend a few minutes completing the Phonics and Settling In surveys. Year 1 Phonics Feedback Your child should have brought home a leaflet which explains how we teach phonics in Y1. We really welcome your feedback on this and the Y1 Phonics talk that was held in school last week. Please spend a few minutes completing this short survey; your feedback is useful even if you weren't able to attend the talk. Year 1 Phonics Talk Questionnaire KS1 Seaside Workshops These will take place in school next week:- Wednesday 4th October - Elephants and Penguins Thursday 5th October - Turtles and Lemurs Friday 6th October - Kangaroos Messages for Teachers We know for parents there can be quick questions you want to ask teachers, or things you want to mention and that once children get into Year 1 & 2 there are fewer opportunities to do this. We are happy for you to email class teachers but know that sometimes a quick face to face conversation can be easier - teachers are more than happy to have a quick chat once they have handed children over safely to parents at the end of the school day.  When should I keep my child off school?
There have been all sorts of germs flying round recently and we have had a number of children who have been poorly. It can be difficult to know when to send them to school and when to keep them at home. The DFE have put some guidance together for parents which is attached below.
- Public Health Guidance states that anyone who has had sickness or diarrhoea must not return to school for 48 hours after the final episode of sickness or diarrhoea.
-The NHS guidance suggests that a key indicator is that if your child has a high temperature they are not well enough to be in school.
Please familiarise yourself with the guidance; we know it can be difficult to know in the morning at home if your child is well enough to be in school; however, please note that if your child seems unwell and is struggling, is sick or has a high temperature we will phone parents and expect you to collect your child - poorly children need to rest and we don't want germs spreading further!
Please remember to phone the school office by 9.00am if your child is absent from school for any reason.

Dates for the Diary Please see attached the Parent Calendar for this year. Please take a few minutes to take note of dates including INSET and holiday dates, Parents' Evenings, Parent workshops to find out about learning in school and performances. Notes about the calendar: 'Fourth Friday' - every 4th Friday that the children are in school parents will be invited into classrooms from when they open at 8:40am until when the bell rings at 8:55am (we have changed this from 'First Friday' due to diary clashes). Initially this will just be Y1 and Y2 classes whilst the new Reception children settle.
