Headteacher's Welcome

Science Week has been so much fun this week! The children have done lots of finding out, experimenting and investigating many different aspects of Science. The children were stunned with a fabulous assembly on Wednesday delivered by 'Amazelab' followed by workshops in their classrooms where they were able to do their own Science experiments - and wear the goggles too!

We have also had lots of parents visiting to talk to the children about the jobs they do using many different aspects of scientific knowledge. Thank you so much to those parents who were able to take time out of their week to talk to us about Science in the workplace - it is so inspiring for children to understand where the pathway in Science may lead in the future.

Thanks to all of the teachers too for making this week so exciting and engaging for the children!

Down Syndrome Awareness Day - Thursday 21st March

Wear odd socks!

Next Thursday is 'World Down Syndrome Awareness Day'.  We will be supporting this by talking to the children about Down Syndrome and supporting the theme this year which is 'End The Stereotypes'. We will be introducing this to the children in an assembly early next week and then spending some time on Thursday exploring the themes further with the children. We are inviting children to support the campaign on Thursday by wearing odd socks!

The Campaign Explained...

For World Down Syndrome Day 2024, we call for people around the world to 'End The Stereotypes'.
Stereotypes stop us from being treated as individuals. Stereotypes lead to people with Down syndrome getting treated like children, they are underestimated and excluded. Sometimes
they are treated very badly or even abused. Each person with Down syndrome is different. Just like everyone else! It is important to get to know the individual. People with Down syndrome are people. Treat them like people! Learn more at End the Stereotypes

Details of the two final Spring Term activities can be found below. We will also be serving refreshments at the Reception Spring Concert and the End of Term Easter Bonnet Parade.
Easter Egg Hunt. Please sign up on ParentPay next week if you'd like your child to take part in this year's eggciting hunt! The clues will lead classes to the warren where they'll find a small edible treat (the office is aware of those with dietary requirements and will be in touch to check).
Rainbow Raffle. A letter explaining how it works was sent out from school last week but you can also find it here. Donations gratefully received by the office up until Friday 22nd March. These will be pooled to make up our amazing rainbow hamper prizes!
If, for any reason, your book of raffle tickets didn't make it home - or if anyone would like to buy more - they are available from the office. Simply complete and hand in by Friday 22nd March. Mrs Hawkins will pick out the winners at the end of term Spring Bonnet Parade on Thursday 28th. Good luck!
*Sensory Garden - Call for Help Planting* If there are any keen gardeners out there or if you simply fancy giving us a hand, a few of us are hoping the weather is going to stay clear on the last weekend of term (23rd/24th) so we can get some planting done and the garden can start to grow. Let us know and we'll keep you posted on plans. We already have a number of plants ready to go in (as recommended by our expert Will) but would love it if anyone has, or would like to donate, a colourful bedding plant or two so we can make it as amazing a space as possible!

We will be having our annual Easter Bonnet Parade in collaboration with Nether Green Junior School on Thursday 28th March.

The plan is that the children from NGJS will walk up towards the Infant School, aiming to arrive here for around 1:45pm. Our children will stand around the edges of the playground with their class teachers to see the Junior children parade around our playground. Our children are invited to bring an Easter bonnet or any other Spring themed headband / hat to wear for the event.

The PTA will be serving refreshments.

More details can be found here.

Active Travel Fortnight
Resources - Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel 2024

This continues next week. Please continue to encourage your children to come to school in an active way; walk, scoot, cycle, jog, skip - whatever gets them moving on their way to school! This is a great way to bring physical activity into your child's daily routine. For those families who live further away from school we encourage you to 'park and stride’ - there is plenty of parking within a short walk from school.
