Headteacher's Welcome

I hope you all had a lovely break over half term and time for some time with your families. The children have come back to school well rested and ready for learning which is great - we even saw the sunshine in the playground a few times which has been lovely! Its a short but busy term so please make sure you check the calendar for all the key dates.

Next Week is World Book Day - Dress up as a Book Character!

Children are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character  and may bring their favourite book in. The children will be doing a range of Book themed activities throughout the day ending with stories and hot chocolate.

Preschool Open Morning - Saturday 14th March 10am-12pm

Please share the date with anyone you know who has a child age 0-3.

We are now taking applications for next school year

September 2026, January & April 2027.

Attendance

There is a clear link to how well children attend and how ell they achieve. Missing time in school makes it difficult for  children as it can create gaps in their learning.

As you will be aware children legally have to attend school and there are government guidance around the consequences of children not attending school which includes fines for taking children on holiday during term time.

Appointments -we know that it can be difficult to arrange medical appointments outside of the school day. In order to authorise this absence we will now be asking to see evidence of the appointment 0-p this can be a text message, email or to ensure that the system is fair for all the school office will now be asking for evidence of appointments  during the school day.

Holidays - School will ask to see evidence of  travel arrangements if holidays are being taken during term time.

Sponsored Pancake Toss Today!

We’ve had a great morning this morning supporting the children with their sponsored pancake toss.  The children ran with their frying pan and pancake up the hall and back again, tossing their pancake at the end of their run, then passing it to their next team member until the time was up.  They all had such a good time, the hall was full of happy faces and lots of cheering and encouragement from their classmates.  Altogether the whole school managed to toss an amazing 862 pancakes!  Such a lot of pancakes!  Well done everyone.
We have had such an amazing response to our request for sponsorship and so far have raised over £2,300 which is absolutely fabulous. Thank you so much. This means we will be able to sponsor a children’s hospital lion cub. Our school will be able to design, paint and give a forever home to one of the cubs. The sculptures will go on display as part of a huge, free public art trail which is celebrating 150 years of Sheffield Children’s Hospital and raising vital funds to create a hospital environment built with children in mind – for today, for tomorrow and for the next 150 years. At the end of the trail, the lion and lioness sculptures will head to auction, and our cub sculpture will be returned to our school to stay and be looked after by everyone in the school.  This is so exciting, thank you once again.
We're just finalising the following events to take place after half term:

Thurs 5th Mar - World Book Day - Book and cake sales plus children invited to dress as their favourite book character.
Thurs 26th Mar - Easter Egg Hunt - Children challenged to solve the clues and find the prize during school time!
Thurs 14th May - School Disco - Sparky Marky booked and more info to follow nearer the time!

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy Pancake Day and have a lovely half term!

 School Term Dates 2025-26

Breakfast & After School Club Bookings

Please ensure you book your child into clubs in advance. It is becoming a regular occurrence that children are arriving in clubs without a booking. One day this week we had 5 children arriving at Breakfast Club who were not on the register. We need to ensure safe staffing levels and in order to do this we need to know how many children to expect. We appreciate that occasionally there are last minute changes, however, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to take children at the last minute who are not booked in.

Preschool children must be booked in at least 7 days in advance as we have to adhere to strict ratios.

Important - Sports Day Change of Date!

We have had to change the date of the Y1 & Y2 Sports Morning due to a diary clash. Each year one class from school performs at the Arches Dance Festival with other schools. This year the date has moved later in the term and will be on 20th May which means we need to move our KS1 Sports morning.

Sports Dates

Wed 20th May - Penguins class to perform at Dance Festival

Thurs 21st May - Reception Sports Afternoon in school

NEW DATE: Wed 3rd Jun - Y1 & Y2 Sports Morning at Hallam Primary School
