It has been another busy week in school, the children are really well settled into their routines and have been working really well in all classes.
Class teachers have put some photos on their class galleries so that you can have a look at what the children have been getting up to. You can access these by clicking through to the Key Stage pages and then selecting your child's class animal. Teachers will update these every so often to share some of the exciting leaning that has been going on in school.
Events in School
The DFE have acknowledged the huge disruption that the pandemic has had on the education of all children. Therefore there is a positive determination to keep schools running 'as normal'. However, please be mindful that Public Health are advising a 'very cautious' approach. Covid cases are continuing to rise in Sheffield and another peak is anticipated this term. Whilst most adults are vaccinated, this does not mean they cannot catch Covid. We are doing everything we can to protect children and staff - providing a quality education for our children whilst staff are off isolating is incredibly challenging. We are tentatively starting to plan some events this term with the hope that they will go ahead, however many of these will run differently to previous years. We know how much parents want to feel more part of the school community and we thank everyone for supporting our priority to provide the best education possible for the children.
We advise that dates on the calendar are to be pencilled into diaries with a question mark and further info will follow nearer the time. We are in the process of reviewing our extra-curricular clubs and will be in touch soon when we are able to offer more after school opportunities.
Messages from the Teachers
A note about getting in touch with teachers...
We know that over the past 18 months we have had to change the way we all communicate with each other due to Covid restrictions. Following advice from Public Health, we are still limiting parents on site in the mornings to ensure the playground doesn't become overcrowded. However, if you have a quick question, teachers are more than happy to chat to you at the end of the school day once the rest of the class have been safely dismissed - sometimes this can be quicker and easier then sending an email.
A note about emails - if you have urgent information that your child's teacher needs to know on the same day (e.g. changes to pick up arrangements) please email the school office - teachers are very unlikely to check emails during the school day as they are busy teaching. If your query is about Home Learning, teachers will get back to you as soon as they can, but this will probably be at the end of the school day. There is information on the KS1 page about a project that children can carry out to keep them busy whilst waiting for more direction from the class teacher.
Year 1 and 2 (KS1)
We have uploaded a PowerPoint for Year 1 and Year 2 explaining some more details for parents about life in Y1 and Y2. These are now live on the KS1 page - Click here
Foundation Stage (Reception)
Please see the latest weekly Newsletter on the Foundation Stage page with everything your need to know about learning in Reception.
Milk - lots of children aren't drinking their school milk which is leading to a lot of waste. Please could you chat to your child about whether they would like milk in school. If not, please email the school office.
We still have a number of parents who haven't activated their ParentPay account. It would be great if you could do this as soon as possible.
Many of you will be aware of 'Challenge 230'. Josh is one of our wonderful Year 1 children who has been undergoing treatment for Leukaemia for the past year. His mum set up Challenge 230 to help to raise money for 3 cancer charities including the ward that he has all his treatment on at Sheffield Children's Hospital. You can read more about Josh's story and Challenge 230 here.
Over the summer Josh's brother Finley completed his very own Challenge, helped along with Josh cheering him along all the way! Cameron, one of our Y1 Elephants also completed a very exciting challenge...
The PTA would love to invite you to the first meeting of the year. We are a friendly group of parents who work together to help raise money for the school and provide fun and exciting experiences for the children whilst they are at NGIS. Any help big or small is really appreciated. Without new parents joining every year we would struggle to keep organising events and raising money.
We hope to see you at the meeting Tuesday 21st September 8pm via Zoom. Please email the PTA for the Zoom link:-
Sheffield Race Day Sunday 26th September
In March 2020 we had a team of runners, staff and parents, who trained to run the Sheffield Half Marathon. Sadly, a few weeks before the race the Pandemic hit and the event was cancelled. Fortunately the team had already raised £750 for the Sheffield Children's Hospital and our Sheffield Bear which has been on display in the Millennium Galleries this summer. Next week some of the team will be putting their trainers back on and aiming to complete either the Half Marathon or 10K. We would love to raise more money towards Josh's Challenge 230. So if you would like to come along and cheer the team on that would be amazing, and might just help us to get up that enormous hill!!
Mrs Hawkins, Mrs Gott & Mrs Hunter will be running from the staff and we have some parents too; James Tissington & Jon Cooper... who will be joining Harriet (Josh's mum), who is running the final 13 miles of her 230 mile challenge! If you are planning to run either of these races and would like to join the team to raise even more for Challenge 230 then please email school ASAP!

Year 1 & 2 Parents - Meet the Teacher
We are aware that Y1 and Y2 parents have not yet had the opportunity to come into the classrooms and see where their child is learning each day.
So, on Wednesday 29th September we will be giving Y1 & Y2 parents the opportunity to come to see your child's classroom, look at the work so far in their books, and meet your child's teacher.
Parents will be asked to book a slot in order that the classroom does not become too overcrowded. We will be in touch with further details soon. This will run from 3:30pm until 6:00pm.
(We are working on the assumption that there is no change to Public Health advice).
A formal parents evening will take place in early November for all year groups where you will be able to discuss your child's progress in more detail.
